From One to Not One
We are spiritual beings having a physical experience. What does that mean? Our natural state of being is to be without a physical body. To live in the experience of Oneness. All That Is is the One. We are all part of that Oneness. We are free to venture within all that has been created and, who knows, within that which is yet to be created, such as physical form. We are free to venture anywhere at anytime we want without barriers. Anything that has a life force is within the One, not just humans, but everything with a frequency, a vibration of life. We also have choices. Among those probably trillions of choices of which one is to experience physicality. To have a physical body that has senses of taste, touch, smell, sight, and sound. The ability to experience density where in Oneness there is only lightness. To experience limitations where in Oneness there is only limitlessness. But perhaps the most exquisite and excruceating experience of all is the lack of Oneness to an experience of aloneness. Separation.
We find that physical bodies have limitations. They cannot go anywhere at anytime within the Cosmos. They are stuck here on Earth, for instance, as a planet of choice. Birth into this physical world reminds me of the opening scene of Mr. Bean. A light appears from above that is shining down on an empty street. All of a sudden a man is dumped there. He rises, looks up, then around, and runs off. He came from the Light and got dropped off into this strange place. We find that this thing, this body, needs almost constant care in order to function, to exist. It needs to be fed and only certain things. In fact those other things also have a physical body, whether it be an animal or a plant. For they too were part of the Oneness from which you came. Now instead of a Oneness of equality, you are thrown into the experience of killing and eating other parts of the One. The body needs to be kept clean. It needs to move or it becomes stiff thus creating another limitation. Within this body you must learn how to live communally with other spirits who are living within a physical experience. You must use audible language to communicate. Where in Oneness all thought is automatically known and communicated into Oneness equally. You learn to depend on other beings for your physical needs. You grow to care deeply for some of these beings, called humans. You have to learn how to actually use this physical body to survive. You have thoughts that feel as if they are your own, your own creation. You learn how to manipulate and create tools to help you to take care of your life in this physical existence. And it seems the responsibilities are endless just to exist. You learn to depend on other humans for your physical needs. You grow to care deeply for some other humans, animals, plants, nature’s beauty, human creations, etc. This is when you also experience for the first time something called loss.
There is no loss in spirit as everything eternally exists there. One minute that person is there, alive and breathing. Within an instant there is no life, no breathing, just an empty shell. How can this be? We live forever!! You can’t be gone. What will I do without you? Loss. Pain. Fear. Longing. With this now you learn a new emotion, an extremely painful emotion called grief. This, to me, is the most painful and difficult emotion to experience. And then the realization that the physical life has an end, which means you too will stop breathing some day. You have lost sight of the fact that you are a spiritual being that lives on eternally. This physical existence is just a creation for you to experience. You have become totally immersed in this physical illusion of reality. It is much like a line from a Sheryl Crow song: “Nobody said it would be easy, but nobody said it would be this hard.” But the fact that bodies die is not the only learning of separation.
Separation comes in many forms. As a child, very inexperienced in this physical world, we must go to school which means separation from mother and father and maybe siblings. You must physically move where you live from one familiar place to an unfamiliar place. You have to leave people and things you were used to having behind. Loss. Separation. Grief. You change employment. You are healthy and all of a sudden you are ill. Loss. Separation. Grief. There are so many different examples of loss, separation, and grief.
Until next time, Love. Connect. Transform.
